Coronado work in progress

The Coronado is finally done!! Here is the evidence!! It now has a modified Athearn chassis with scratch built running boards and side extenders. The glass is been replaced with a windshield (custom fit) out of an Mercedes Actros; side glass is acetate both flush-mounted! Front wheels are A-Line; rear wheels are from Dennis Aust. Chrome detail is a combination of Bare Metal Foil and Alclad; paint is all basecoat/clearcoat. Mirrors and grab handles are brass wire ane plastic stock.

The trailer is the same one used on the FLD 120.

Here are some shots of the Boley Peterbilt 377. The purple is a pearl so it will need some daylite to give it the edge we're looking for. Till then this is what it looks like; Athearn chassis for the rear; Herpa rear wheels, A-Line front. Scratchbilt details include mirrors, tool/step boxes, tailight bar, bug deflector and curved exhust tips. The color is a custom pearl purple base/clear.
Jim has put his new Peterbilt 377 to work now. These pictures show the Peterbilt pulling a Lonestar Barrett Livestock trailer.
Here are some shots or two of the Thomas bus I've been working on. The hood is a resin cast RMM FL 60 cut at the cowel and modified to fit the bus chassis which is a Herpa Bluebird (IH removed) somewhat modified to resemble the Thomas brand. The rear bumper and wheel arches have been re-worked and of course the Bluebird logo removed; new authentic school bus yellow/black paint applied with two-tone grey interior. Details added such as the forward mounted convex mirrors and antenna are wire/plastic sprue ends. Wheels are from the Athearn C cab Fire truck 5 hole steel disc style.
Here is the long awaited Mack Vision day cab that you already seen but now it is complete..........mirrors and all!! The cab is a modified Herpa Mack CH with Masterbilt Models Vision hood and bumper on a Herpa Mack CH chassis with A-Line resin air deflector and two hole drive axle wheels and cab detail decals from Pen-Bay.
Here is a little project that was rather quick (for my usual that is); it is Athearn Ford C cab with a coat of urethane clear and windshield rubber detail. The interior has had some minor piant detail as well and the trailer has front clearance lites added. quick, simple and cool!!
This model is custom built for the owner who runs for Greenline. Here is a picture of the Western Star at the 2003 BC Big Rig Show & Shine.
Here is Jamie's latest project complete!! It is a Peterbilt 378 which has been molded (cab/hood/sleeper) as one piece. The hood portion is scratch built using the Boley 377 as a start!

It sits on a modified Herpa frame; other modified items are Wiking battery boxes and air breathers, Boley tanks. Scratchbuilt items are Peterbilt "airtrac" suspension,5th wheel plate, rear lite bar, tool/step boxes, exhaust stacks, grab handles, bug deflector, side lite around bunk lower/cab and mirrors. A-Line provided the front wheels and Ertl the rear; custom blue base/clear paint job.

The bumper and headlites are mastered by Jamie as well and will be included in the upcoming conversion kit.

Jamie (Jim's son) built this fine looking Western Start. The cab/hood and bunk are mounted on a lenthened Herpa Ford frame with Aline front wheels and Denis Aust rear wheels. Modifications include; trimmed down tool boxes and half fenders from Herpa`s Pete, and modified tanks from Jacobs Models LTL-9000 kit. Details include; scratch built mirriors, windows, bug deflector, stacks, air breathers, antennas, battery boxes, bumper, litebar, mud flaps, deck plate, and fifth wheel plate.

Modifications to the trailer include; spreading the suspension and hand scribing the rear doors to represent quilted doors. Details include; mud flaps, spare tire, reefer(from Aline), and hand made mud flap logos. The decals are also from Aline and the wheels are from Denis Aust.

Here is a shot of the first of three FLD's! It started out as a Jacobs Resin Condo shortened to 42" bunk with a day cab roof with custom built roof for the sleeper part and a custom built roof fairing!! The side skirting was shortened and a custom front bumper fabricated. Mounted on an Athearn chassis which was modified to accept the FLD. Rear suspension was "air bagged" and spread out to 72", Boley rear full fenders with modified Boley 1/4 fenders over the rear most axle. Other items include straight pipes out of aluminum tube, mirors, tailite bar, bug deflector, CB antenna, windsheild wipers and custom lites added to the side skirting and front bumper. Chrome is combination of BareMetalFoil and Alclad chrome finish. Paint is all R-M auto base/clear coat and it rides on Herpa wheels/tires, decals for mud flaps come from PenBay. I hope to get some better photos as the winsheild is foggd up after the wash and directly into the sun.
Here is the 2nd FLD out of three; it is a 70" condo mounted on an Athearn chassis (modified) with all the usuals! A-Line supplied the steer tires and Dennis Aust the drives, 1/2 fenders are cut from a Herpa tanker and the mufflers are from some die-cast out of the srap box with aluminum tubes stacks. Chrome is a combination of Alclad and BareMetalFoil with base/clear auto paint topping the unit off!
The trailer is a Walthers 53' Stoughton dry box with a functional 72" tridem sliding suspension; Athearn wheels/tires and extra clearance ltes were added to the unit also painted in auto paint. Decals are from A-Line and Microscale. Rear doors are BAreMetlFoil. Here is a clearer photo of the 70" with the 53' wagon and a shot of #1&2 together!
I decided to hook up the container Atrain to a little 80's vintage tractor. I beieve it may be a Yatming or Roadchamp origion that has been somewhat modified. This truck is a little foggy as it was along time ago that it was done. Looks to me like it has a Cox (Peterbilt) frame modified to accept LeeTown tires/wheels with Herpa battery boxes and mirrors. the 60" aerodyne bunk was cut down to a flat top (too bad now) and was painted in the Trojan color scheme. The scene here is likely a "resold" truck or the owner decided to change from steel hauling to container hauling.

This would be a typical set up to haul container in the late 70's early 80's. The containers are of course the Athearn units paired up with an A-Line convertor dolly that has not been painted the correct colors. It just seemed like the right tractor for the scene.

Kenworth W900 with a set of Athearn container chassis with a colored dolley convertor!!
The last of the FLD series.......a daycab mounted on a modified Athearn frame with the new wheels form the same!! The rest of the details are the same as the others with a 60" spread on the rear, mud flap decals are frome PenBay and the chrome is all BareMetalFoil. It is hooked into an earlier Walthers 48' Stoughton which is just about straight up out of the box other then a tridem sliding suspension; safety stripes are A-Line.
The shop building that goes along with Jim's diorama.
New decals that Ken Goudy made up for Jim's fleet of trucks
Here is Jim's diorama showing the yard and shop mocked up and almost ready for the 1/87 National Convention in Ontario, CA.
Pictured here is a new 15 HP compressor; ready to be plumbed in to the new shop!!

Here is the RD Mack cab and chassis waiting for the body.
Here is the RD Mack complete. It is mounted on a modified Athearn chassis twin steer 72" spread front and rear; Athearn front wheels (modified to super singles) and Boley six spoke rear wheels, Herpa mixer drum with various scratch built parts and peices from the "spare parts box". Windsheild is from Todd Terpstra and water hose on the drum is copper wire. Testors grey for the drum and custom mix green model paint with auto clear coat provides protection for the cab.
Work in progress on the different 379's
Finished Peterbilt 379 hooked into Jamie's lowboy with the Herpa Leibherr loader! Two shots of the completed 379
More finished photos of the 379
The cab is a modified Rick Decals Mack MR which was hollowed out and then the windows were changed from the roll down to the slide type opening up the cab quite a bit! The fenders come from the Mercedes cad as well as the modified interior. Scratch built mirrors, exhaust and airbreather tower as well as clearance lights; air horns are from Athearn.

The completed cab was mounted on the Kibri chassis with modified Herpa front wheels and Athearn tires, Athearn tire/wheels on the rear, Kibri battery box air tanks finish the chassis! The pumper is straight from the box; the whole unit is finished in Testors grey for the pump and custom green for the cab! Go ahead and use the photos you think are best!

Here is an IH Loadstar that I started back in the early 90's! It started out as a Walthers solid resin early 70's vintage and was molded and altered to a late 70's 1700 model! Its mounted on a Ford C chassis from Athearn as well as the stake body modified to a grain box (by filling the wood sides in) and using the Athearn spoke style wheels.
1998 International and 199 International models Side shot of the 1999 International 9200
Work in process pictures of JACOBS SCALE MODELS' Freightliner Century
Here is JACOB SCALE MODELS latest truck. The tractor is a Century mounted on a modified Athearn chassis with scratch built 5th wheel carrier, deck plate, "baby moons" on tractor rear wheels and mirrors! A-Line wheels on both tractor and trailer which has the authentic Sunbury fleet color mixed up and applied in base/clear auto paint. Decals come form PenBay and A-Line.

The trailer is a Truck'N'Stuff 53" Trailmobile dry box (at least it looks quite a bit like it) that has very little modifying to it.

Thanks to Doug McKenzie for assisting in all the necessary details to finish the model.........my Eastern link!!
