An early RTA passenger train with older Rock Island passenger cars on back. This was way before Metra that runs now a days with 6 or 7 cars. This was taken at the railroad stop in Tinley Park, IL. 1977. A Rock Island freight train came through shortly after the commuter train I took earlier, also in Tinley Park, IL. 1977. A Union Pacific freight train coming through downtown while I waited for a trailer in DeKalb, IL. Apr. 2008.
A scene of a train platform and a Baltimore and Ohio passenger train somewhere in Chicago, IL. 1960s. A California Zephyr passenger train coming into Chicago IL. 1960s. A Central of Georgia set of engines in Chicago IL. 1960s.
A Chicago and Northwestern passenger train going over Ogden Av. in Chicago, IL. 1960s. Another Chicago and Northwestern passenger train somewhere near Chicago, IL. 1960s. A shot of a Chicago and Northwestern E8A engine somewhere near Chicago, IL. 1960s.
A couple of shots of a Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad passenger train in Chicago, IL. 1970s.
An older dark green Illinois Central passenger train in an unknown location in Chicago, IL. 1959. A newer look to an Illinois Central passenger train in an unknown location in Chicago, IL. 1970s.
A couple of shots I took of an Amtrak Superliner passenger train in Union Station in Chicago, IL. 1980s.
A couple of shots of a Metra passenger train in Union Station in Chicago, IL. 1980s.
A Burlington Pioneer Zephyr passenger train parked somewhere in Chicago, IL. 1960s. A close up view of the observation car on the Pioneer Zephyr passenger train in Chicago, IL. 1960s. Another close up shot, this a Union Pacific engine in Chicago, IL. 1970s.
The three electric passenger trains are all North Shore (Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee) trains. The first (from left) is one of the two Electroliners owned by the North Shore. The center shot is of some of their Silverliners. These are really the same as the all green & red cars on the right except they were updated at one point. The updating included what appears to be fluted aluminum or stainless steel siding below the window line. Actually, this was only a very well done paint job shaded to appear as if the were actual fluting. You had to be real close to tell the difference.

The line ran from the Chicago loop to their station in downtown Milwaukee, just west of the old Milwaukee Road Everett Street station. It closed in 1963 due to the short sightedness of local government to keep what would eventually become a sorely missed people mover. A very informative history of this train line and many thanks to John Hagen for providing this information.
A RailAmerica freight train makes it's way westbound running along next to US-24 in IL. June 2011.
