Here is a table of the numbering scheme for Motor Cargo courtesy of Wilt Warren

Motor Cargo Number Explanation
10-xxxx Singe-drive tractors
20-xxxx & 21-xxxx Twin-drive tractors
13-xxxx Owner/operator leased power units (there are very few)
50-xxxx & R50-xxxx 24 ft box trucks (R indicates reefer-unit equipped
01-xxxx Converter Dollys
28-xxxx 28 foot dry trailers ("pups")
D28-xxxx newer "E-track" equipped 28 foot dry trailers
R28-xxxx 28 foot reefer trailers
L28-xxxx 28 foot dry trailers with lift-gates and "E-track"
48-xxxx & 45-xxxx 48 or 45 foot dry trailers
There are some other odd-ball trailers in the fleet, in all cases the first letter indicates type (F=Flatbed, for example) the numbers before the "-" indicate size in feet, and the last four numbers are sequential in order added to fleet (Portland has F45-0004 for example, it's a 45 foot flat-bed and was the 4th 45 foot flat to be added to the fleet). Some of the reefer trailers are domiciled for local use only at each terminal, the alpha code for the domicile terminal shows at the end of the number (we have R28-0378POR, for example).
One of several (20+) 28 foot trailers Motor Cargo picked-up from CF. I don't know any particulars (what auction location, CF unit #'s, etc.) about these units, but I know that an independent trailer shop in Southern California refurbished the units before we put them into service. The stenciling on the front of the trailer indicates that it is an "LA to SEA" unit, I also know nothing about this designation, all the ex CF units I've seen have this so I think we are only going to use these units on the I-5 corridor (I don't know how long that will last however!).
